Students should pitch in

Cal State Long Beach students need to step out of the lines flowing from the bookstore and the Nugget and get into step by helping make decisions for renovations at the University Student Union.

Starting soon, the Student Union will be undergoing an upgrade. More food services, computers and a new decor will be added.

Students use the union for studying, eating and recreation. The directors at the union are working hard to make sure these services are up-to-date for the convenience of students.

They in turn are needed to supply ideas of what their peers are lacking. If students are having a hard time finding available computers or vegetarian students need a food service for them, these people would not know these things unless students inform the directors.

Meetings take place once a month and students should show their concern by attending one of them. There is also an information line students can call to find about developments and share ideas.

It is important to know what is happening because there may be things that the committee may want to enforce or forget about. This is a place for students to voice their opinions.

Student involvement would also create a more community spirit. CSULB is basically a commuter school and many students may see this campus as a place to just attend classes and leave.

Getting involved in the other activities that aren’t necessarily academic but are still a part of the university experience is important.

There are so many instances in which students are not informed of changes to their environments.

When students are invited to supply their input as to changes made which will ultimately effect them, they should seize that opportunity.

Take responsibility for the campus.

Students will benefit therefore students should have a voice. Help create an inviting atmosphere and a place where students feel they can relax and get things done at the same time.

What people put into the system is exactly what they get out of it.
