Seventeen magazine will be at Cal State Long Beach today as part of the magazine’s Seventeen on Campus tour. Magazine representatives will offer free makeovers courtesy of Lancome and will be actively searching for potential models.

CSULB was chosen to be one of five college campuses nationwide to participate in this event. Seventeen magazine representatives said they are looking for both male and female models between the ages of 17 an 23. No particular look was described by representatives, but the tour has received more than 400 participants at each campus stop. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the University Student Union terrace and continue until 3 p.m. with an hour break at noon for lunch.

"We’re expecting more than 500 people to show up considering all of the phone calls we’ve received," said Student Union program coordinator Sylvana Zermeno. She also said that she expects people to come from outside of CSULB because the event was advertised in the September issue of Seventeen.

The event will follow a format beginning with each participant having their picture taken and then taking a stroll down a short runway. Makeovers will be given and various sponsor samples will be handed out near the end of the event.

“The whole event should bring a lot of energy to our campus,” Zermeno said.

Seventeen, a New York City-based magazine, targets female readers between the ages of 16 and 19. A wide variety of topics are covered in the magazine, ranging from how to tell when a guy is flirting to special make-up secrets of the stars. The publication also covers at least one feature in every issue with serious subject matters such as teenagers who struggle with eating disorders, and the less serious topics like how to cope with the back-to-school blues. In addition Seventeen showcases the latest fashion trends and allows readers to write in to the magazine’s advice column.

The Seventeen on Campus tour will follow its appearance at CSULB with an interactive expo and fashion show this weekend at the Westminster Mall. The mall event will highlight the newest trends in health and fitness, fashion, beauty, and entertainment. Selected models at the CSULB event will be featured in the mall fashion show.

More information about the model search, makeovers or the fashion show can be obtained by calling the Student Union at (310) 985-4353.
