Steamrolling through the weekend, the Cal State Long Beach women's volleyball team won two more matches, for a 14-0 season start. The Big West opener was Friday night, and the 49ers swept Cal State Fullerton (15-8, 15-4, 15-7).
Jenn Snyder, the 6-foot-2-inch junior from Glendale, Ariz., was hitting well with 16 kills, one error, 24 attempts for a .625 pct., her season best.
It took CSULB only 70 minutes Saturday to suck up the UC Irvine Anteaters (15-6, 15-3, 15-1). Misty May's 13 kills in 14 attempts (.857) was the best hitting percentage for a Big West conference player this season. May had 35 assists against UCI and 33 against CSU Fullerton.
Wednesday, the 49ers return home for Poster Night after a 12-match, month-long tour of the country. They meet the Big West's newest member, Boise State. The Broncos finished 4th last year in the Big Sky conference. The last time CSULB met Boise State was back in 1984, when the 49ers prevailed.
Saturday's match at 17th-ranked University of the Pacific (9-3) should be the toughest yet for the 49ers. UOP beat the Titans and Anteaters in the same fashion as did CSULB, although the Tigers did lose one game in their win over CSU Fullerton.
