Campus lead electrician Willis B. Moore, 61, died Friday of a heart attack while camping in Anaheim Hills Featherly Park.
Moore was a well-liked university employee for 32 years. He started working at Cal State Long Beach in 1964 as an electrician in Plant Operations.
"Willis was the kind of guy that anyone walking by would say, 'We love you Willis,'" said Sgt. Jim Beaver of Public Safety. "Everybody at the Outpost knew him; he even had a plaque on his seat."
Moore's job file included many letters of commendation to his supervisors congratulating him for his helpful attitude and good work over the years.
Moore is the youngest of six children. He was born to Fred and Rena Moore on Aug. 29, 1935, in Glendale. Much of his youth was spent in Lone Pine, near Mt. Whitney.
Friends remembered Moore as having many anecdotes of his life in Lone Pine: "Whenever you mentioned Lone Pine he always had a good story for you. He would always start out, 'You know when you go to Lone Pine . . . '"
Moore was in the Army and served in the Korean War. As a young man he worked as an electrician at Stauffer Chemical before coming to CSULB. Moore was active in Little League and was a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed baseball, fishing and the outdoors.
Moore is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons Steve, Bob and Alan; daughters Lori and Sandi; and 15 grandchildren.
