Voter turnout for this election was at an all-time low of 48.8 percent as reported by Associated Press. It hasn't been this low since 1924 when it was 50.1 percent.
The other 100 million voters represented the disenfranchised voters who did not feel compelled to vote.
There were definitely candidates to choose from but not for them.
The blanket of ideas that the "real" candidates covered was not big enough and left some voters out in the cold.
President Clinton has objected vehemently to being called a liberal like McCarthy would have to being called a communist.
But there are some extremely liberal people who call themselves Democrats who expect their president to be proud to represent them. But what alternative do these people have?
They certainly weren't going to vote for Dole.
Bob Dole had old ideas. He tried to go back to an old politcal machine that has rusted parts.
Clinton is a career politician who is able to speak clearly and knows how to appeal to voters.
Convictions among the presidential candidates are based upon being a good politician, campaigner and persuader.
It no longer requires someone who has concrete ideas or a definitive stance either conservatively or liberally or extremist in any form.
At least that is apparently what career politicians believe the American public wants.
But who actually is to blame?
The statement that is being made by many voters is that neither of these candidates gets my endorsement. Experts are so quick to judge the public for being apathetic.
That is why it is important for the other political parties not to have that kind of apathetic attitude and campaign for citizens who do not fit on top of the fence.
This is the kind of apathy that voters have to stop. If the political parties are not serving their purpose, support the other candidates.
It is time that this country's citizens stop buying into the notion that there can only be a two-party system.
During the debates, the Republicans discounted Ross Perot and the Reform Party for not having enough support to make a difference.
Other voices are basically shut up in order for the dominants to have control.
Both the Democrats and the Republicans realize that their influence is weakening.
Alternative parties could mean the end of domination as the beginning of real ideas reemerging into government.
Now that the elections are over, this is the perfect time for supporters of the Green, Reform, Libertarian and Peace and Freedom parties to organize and mobilize forces.
This will send a message to the other parties that they are dinosaurs and cannot rely on name and reputation alone.
