Students and faculty who enter the campus on Atherton Street or Palo Verde Avenue may have missed the new electronic sign on the corner of Seventh Street and West Campus Drive, which displays upcoming campus and community events, as well as the current time and weather.
"It’s intended to replace the temporary signs and billboards," Thomas Bass, director of Parking and Transportation Services, said. "As we’ve seen with other campuses, the demand will soon outstrip the supply."
The sign was originally designed to be used as a radio transmitter to update messages remotely from the Parking Office.
"All procedures are still being worked out," Bass said. "We will have published guidelines soon. There will be limitations due to its being next to a busy highway, and we will have no animation (displayed)."
"I think this is a wonderful opportunity to get the campus community out into the community in general," he said. "It is available and we’re looking for business."
Anyone interested in submitting requests for space on the sign should call Parking and Transportation Services at (310) 985-4146.
