Lights and cameras are at The Pyramid for the filming of science fiction director Paul Verhoeven’s new film, "Starship Troopers."

The motion picture, scheduled for release next July 4, is in keeping with the director’s other space-age action-adventure flicks, such as "Total Recall" and "Robocop."

The Pyramid has been transformed into a football stadium from the future and is the background for the plot. Young up-and-coming actors, including Patrick Muldoon of "Melrose Place," play high school stars preparing for the biggest game of the year. After graduation, their hometown of Buenos Aires is destroyed in a battle being waged throughout the entire galaxy. The teens must join the military in order to maintain civil rights, and the heart-stopping action and special effects take off from there.

Location manager Patrick Mignano said he saw The Pyramid while driving on the freeway and instantly knew where he wanted to shoot on-location.

"We chose The Pyramid because of the fabulous architectual design and the futuristic look of the building," Mignano said.

Extras are still needed for the last two days of filming, today and tomorrow. Those interested should call (310) 280-5557 for more information.
