Troubles continue to plaque the fifth ranked Cal Sate Women's Volleyball team. After already losing outside hitter Kristin Harris to a season-ending knee injury, the 49ers will now lose National High School Player of the Year Misty May, because of a dislocated right shoulder suffered in practice.

"With one of our top players, Kristin Harris, already out, this recent loss is even more magnified," says Head Coach Brian Gimmillaro.

May leads the Big West Conference in service aces per game with 0.61, averages 10.2 assists a game, and is second on the team in blocking, with 0.88 blocks per game.

She has started all nine matches the 49ers have played this season. "Misty has been improving daily as a setter and has already positioned herself as our team leader. This is a major loss," said Gimmillaro.

May will definitely miss this Friday and Saturdays conference games against Cal State Fullerton as well as a tough UC Santa Barbara team who is currently ranked 18th. She is also expected to miss next Wednesday's home match against UC Irvine.

May made 49er history this year, becoming the first freshman to start at the setter position since 1986.
