The final census for fall 1995 showed the first increase in enrollment at Cal State Long Beach since 1990.
In 1990, the number of total enrolled students on campus was 33,991. Since then, enrollment continually declined, reaching its lowest point at 26,277 students in 1994.
During the five-year skid, enrollment dropped by a total of 6,062 registered students.
The 1995 census, which was released Monday, showed an increase of 126 students with a total of 26,403 enrolled.
The enrollment information was gathered by the institutional research office at CSULB.
Director Donald Coan said he expects to see further increases in the future as California picks up after a five-year recession slump.
The 26,403 students enrolled represent the total number of full-time, part-time and graduate students. The university uses other figures when dealing with the budget, Coan said.
Full-Time Equivalent Students statistics are used when calculating for budget purposes, he said.
The FTES includes only students carrying more than 15 units. This number has increased by 306 students since last fall, the census showed.
Preliminary census figures from August showed another slight decline in registered students, but Coan said that those figures were premature.
