Cal State Long Beach President Robert Maxson has released a
1995-96 budget that includes a pay raise for faculty
and staff.
Unlike previous years, this year's budget was not cut. As a
result, there are sufficient funds that will be allocated
toward a 2.5 percent salary increase for faculty and staff on campus,
Maxson stated in his report.
Funding for student services will also receive a share of this
year's budget.
After a long battle in Sacramento, Gov. Pete Wilson signed the
1995-96 state budget on Aug. 3. The $58.9 billion
final budget calls for more educational support.
The highest priority of the budget will be given to public
schools, with a moderate increase in funding to state
universities.
Funding for student recruitment to CSULB will also be allocated,
at a time when student demand is increasing on
campus and when a long-awaited enrollment growth is expected to
occur.
It is due to this anticipated enrollment increase that $95,000
will be used for recruiting some of the most
academically-achieved high school graduates into CSULB.
CSULB will also allocate $60,000 to advancing CSULB's academic
image and reputation, the report said. Maxson
said this will be achieved by utilizing a weekly cable show that
would highlight campus programs and profile faculty.
The use of electronic media and new radio and television public
service announcements will be included in the
amount given to promoting the campus, Maxson stated in the report.
"Since Pete Wilson has made a commitment to provide budget
increases to the CSU over the next four years, we're
hoping to see a continued positive trend in the system," said
Armando Contreras, executive assistant to Maxson.
