The Disabled Resource Center in Long Beach is holding its10th annual Oktoberfest fund-raiser Saturday.

"Oktoberfest is a fund raising event which is a great amount of fun, good food, good music and dancing," said Tony Welch, a center board member.

German delicacies will be offered as well as a German band. Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win a new 1995 Acura, a trip to Germany, or a ride on the Goodyear Blimp.

The event is part of an effort to raise funds for the Disabled Resource Center, as well as 11 other non-profit organizations serving this community.

The center provides services such as living-arrangements counseling, information on rental practices, professional counseling, workshops on topics related to disabilities, and peer-counseling training programs.

These services are available to Cal State Long Beach students through a referral program provided by the Disabled Student Services Center on campus.

The student center has been working together with this organization to serve the disabled population in and out of Cal State Long Beach.

Welch said this fundraising event was a tremendous success in other years while having something to do for everyone who participates. The Oktoberfest in 1993 raised more than $120,000.

The center is a private, non-profit corporation, established in 1976.

"This organization helps people with disabilities to maintain an optimum level of independence in the community," said event coordinator Marca Robinson.
