The Postal Annex, located in the University Student Union South Plaza closed shop last Thursday after filing for bankruptcy.

Salvador Basile, owner of the multi-purpose shop, announced last week to the Student Union director that Thursday was the last day the Postal Annex would be opened.

Diane Dumas, assistant to the Student Union's director, said that the Postal Annex had been having financial problems which may have lead to the bankruptcy.

"It was surprising to us all when Salvador came in Thursday and let us know it would be his last day," said Diane Dumas , assistant to the Student Union director.

The Postal Annex facilitated several post office boxes daily, 50 of which were used by students. Now, mail will be redirected to Dumas' office to be distributed appropriately.

Tomeicko Gilbert, a senior and an English major, had been using her postal box for two semester now. "I can't believe it, I have my box paid up until November," Gilbert said.

The post office boxes were just one of the many services offered at the Postal Annex. It also sold greeting cards and stationary supplies . The shop also offered UPS and Federal Express shipping, reproduce keys and offered fax and photocopying services.

Dumas said she hopes the Student Union services office will renew these services in the near future.
