The Cal State Long Beach budget increase significantly increase in the next year, which means more money for each of the university’s departments.

Over the years, the budget has been steadily increasing, but Budget Director Candie Sage-horn said nothing is finalized yet. Although, the school is expecting an estimated $12 million increase in the new budget.

The budget approval is a long process which is submitted to the governor, who then submits the proposed budget in January. The budget bill is then introduced to the Legislature and prepared for analysis and overview.

The bill then goes through the Senate and budget committees. After this process, the governor then submits a “May Revise.” The Budget Conference Committee then reconciles and adopts the budget. Next the legislature votes on the budget and finally the governor signs it.

The extra money in the school budget will be separated among each department at CSULB. Each department has the decision of how it will then separate and spend its share of the budget. Each department’s budget is based on’its budget of the previous years.
