Protest Continued

Walkout • Despite the rainy weather and lock-downs at local schools, Long Beach high school students continue to protest the H.R. 4437 Tuesday at Cesar Chavez Park for the second day in a row. Tracey Roman / Online Forty-Niner

News

  • SAT errors have little effect at CSULB
Approximately 4,000 high school students nationwide were given erroneous scores after taking the SAT reasoning test, according to the Los Angeles Times; however, providing incorrect SAT scores did not seem to affect admissions at Cal Sate Long Beach.

  • Art promotes peace, shows dangers of nuclear arms
An exhibit featuring photographs from the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be on display in Design Gallery 101 until Thursday.

  • Student chosen for scholarly internship
A Cal State Long Beach junior communications major has been selected to participate in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars’ (NSCS) Distinguished Scholars Program (DSP).

  • Nov. initiative calls for new tobacco tax
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is gathering signatures to place a proposition on the November ballot in California that would levy a new tax on tobacco. ACS expects this new tax will help encourage people to stop or cut back on smoking because of the added cost to purchase tobacco products.

Opinion

  • Our View: Go out and vote, vote (this means you)
Today is your last day to vote, Cal State Long Beach. We urge you to do so to make your mark at The Beach for our student government. We know in the hustle and bustle of midterms, term papers and finding parking spaces, to many, voting here at school may seem distant and useless.

  • Rallies, riots, ruckus proponents for societal change
We live in a time where controversial issues frontload our public agenda. The United States’ seemingly endless presence in Iraq continues, debates on civil rights issues like gay marriage and abortion are brought up repetitively and it seems as though every other week some senator or public official is calling for the impeachment of President George W. Bush.

  • ‘Da Vinci Code’ controversy about work of fiction
In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past three years, Dan Brown’s thriller, “The Da Vinci Code,” has become one of the most popular books of all time since its debut in 2003. Other best-selling authors like Ann Rice and James Patterson focus on similar themes (secret cover-ups, good vs. evil, murder) as Brown, but his novel has created a storm of controversy.

  • Metal music stereotypes incorrect unfounded
There is a mystery that surrounds hard rock.

  • Illegals actually criminals
The March 28 Our View titled “Immigration reforms in right direction,” says the tax burden put upon Americans by illegal immigration “is only a testament to the importance of creating lasting and humane legislation that addresses this issue."
