  • Sorority clothing sale benefits cancer research
    Cal State Long Beach’s Tri Delta sorority put on “Fashion for life,” its annual fashion show, Thursday, showing off and selling discounted designer duds to benefit children’s cancer research.



  • Bill to snuff out smoking in businesses and parking lots
    Congresswoman Jenny Oropeza, D-Carson, introduced the Common Area Smoking Ban Bill Feb. 16, which will expand the ban on public smoking if passed into law.



  • Conference panel gives tips on pursuing careers
    After being inactive for three years due to a lack of commitment, the Cal State Long Beach chapter of Habitat for Humanity (H4H) is hoping to revive itself with the help of Public Relations Students Society of America (PRSSA) and the University Student Union.

  • WPE advising, class lead to increased testing proficiency
    Before receiving a degree and taking a job in his or her chosen career, every student at Cal State Long Beach must pass a 75-minute writing assessment also known as the Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE). The number of students passing has significantly increased from 59.3 percent in 2004 to 78.7 percent in November 2005.



  • UCES helps older students through online classes
    University College Extension Services (UCES) provides Cal State Long Beach students with the option of taking most, if not all of their classes online. UCES relies heavily on online courses to accommodate working adults with busy schedules.

  • Xrayok music experimental with dance pop-rock
    Upon the first listen of Xrayok’s November self-released sophomore album “Like Life,” this reporter immediately closed her eyes and let the music take her to an untarnished utopian land, populated by the bare trees pictured on their album cover. The foursome can almost be described as the brainy lovechild of rock inspirations like Radiohead and Muse.
