Parking • Students were confused and late to class Tuesday when they found portions of Lot 11A and Lot 12 blocked off and around 200 parking spaces were inaccessible. A sign notified students the walkway between Lot 12 and George Allen Field would be closed as of May 1 due to construction. Another sign at the entrance to Lot 11 on Palo Verde Street had the same notification about the lot. There are a number of walkways and parking spaces blocked off by fences in the two lots. Opinion

  • Our View: Student involvement absent, voting needed
It was extremely disappointing to find out last week only 679 students voted during the 49er and Dig Referendum elections last week. We are not complaining because the referendum did not pass, but it must be said that at a school that brags about being the third largest university in the West, with over 34,000 students, that is one sad little number.

  • Global warming no cause for alarm, SVUs ok
Now, I’ve never claimed to be the brightest guy in the world, but I’ve noticed some weird stuff with the weather lately. I mean, I know Florida has never been the best place to live, but how many hurricanes could hit one place in a year?

  • Women's health summit host to local organizations
Thank you for the article, “Women’s health summit fosters sex awareness” in the April 24 issue of the Daily Forty-Niner regarding the Long Beach Women’s Health Summit.  I would like to correct and clarify a statement I made in regards to the summit. The quote in the article reads,“There were no agencies or corporations hosting it.”

  • Draft disappoints NFL fans
Houston you have a problem. There’s a reason why the fans at the sold-out Radio Music City Hall chanted “overrated’’ and booed profusely at the beginning of Saturday’s NFL Draft. So, please explain to me and the millions of fans watching all over the globe what was going through your thought process when you spent the number No. 1 pick and the dreams of your franchise on North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams, over Heisman trophy winner Reggie Bush.
