Journalism Day

Speaker
• James O’Byrne, features editor at the New Orleans Times-Picayune, fought through Hurricane Katrina to bring New Orleans news, which in turn helped win the paper the Pulitzer Prize. O’Bryne, the keynote speaker at the annual Journalism Day, shared his experience with journalism students and answered any questions they had pertaining to news coverage of a disaster. News

  • Students oppose 49er/Dig referendum
The consensus of the small percentage of Cal State Long Beach students who voted in the 49er and Dig Referendum ruled against a $4 student fee increase which would fund the two publications.

  • Kaleidoscope brings music, awareness and fun to CSULB
More than 30,000 people accumulated at Cal State Long Beach’s campus Saturday for the 21st annual Kaleidoscope festival and open house.

  • CSULB Multicultural Festival highlights diversity
Students had the opportunity to visit with more than 20 cultural, religious and social organization booths last Thursday as a part of the Second Annual Multicultural Festival. The event, sponsored by Associated Students Inc., was meant to give students and organizations an opportunity to meet and learn, event organizers said.

Opinion

  • Our View: NYCLU lawsuit frivolous, disrespectful
Some Americans are afraid of their own military.

  • Why do dumb blondes get the fun (and fortune)?
Finally it’s happened, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Last Wednesday night, Kellie Pickler, the so-called adorably ditsy blonde from North Carolina, was booted off “American Idol.” Did anyone else think this girl was one of the dumbest contestants in “Idol” history, especially with her mispronunciation of “salmon,” her just plain cluelessness to words such as “calamari” and Simon referring to her as a “sexy minx."

Sports

  • Bruins win coveted playoff spot
Momentum from the win against UC Irvine Thursday was not enough to carry Long Beach State as they fell to UCLA Saturday in the deciding game for a ticket to the NCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship.
