Fire
• Firefighters spray down the side of a condo trying to extinguish any remaining hot spots from a fire that destroyed a condo and damaged surrounding units Tuesday morning at the Marina Pacifica Private Waterfront Community behind the Marina Pacifica Shopping Center. Over half of Long Beach fire stations responded to the blaze. The cause is still under investigation. Minor injuries were reported. Tracey Roman / Online Forty-Niner

News

  • Bid shortage bogs down library construction
Nearly two years after being approved by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a general obligation bond as well as funding provided by the Cal State Long Beach capsule budget will allow for an addition/renovation project on the University Library.

  • CSULB cancer survivors walk proud, help charity
For most of us, the phrase “don’t sweat the small stuff” is not easily applied to our lives. While lack of parking and procrastinated study sessions may cause extreme stress for the average Cal State Long Beach student, Katherine Roberts and Jamie Deaton have learned those things do not matter.

Opinion

  • Our View: Sexy news flash: ‘study’ a botched attempt
According to an online ABC News story released Monday, “Racy TV Shows Increase Sex Activity, Study Says,” the more sexual content kids are exposed to in the media, the more likely they are to engage in sexual activity at an earlier age.

  • Don’t be another Oscar the Grouch, recycle
He is green, grizzly and grumpy. His best friend is a worm, and he lives in a tin can. As we have grown older we have come to appreciate his cynical view of the world.

Entertainment

  • Long Beach’s Hottest Happy Hour Spots
When students are in dire need of a study break, they often head for their favorite watering hole to escape the
myriad of academic stresses they are dealing with. Many bars and restaurants in Long Beach cater to students by enticing them with great happy hour specials on food and drinks.

  • The Best of LB Happy Hour
    Restaurants, college crowds, alternative scenes.

  • Do spring break ‘So Cal’ style
It’s that time of year again, when Cal State Long Beach students finally get a break from studying, classes and midterms, and get to take a week-long vacation from it all. Many of you will simply work or relax in Long Beach during spring break, but for those in the mood for travel and adventure around Southern California, there are a variety of places to go and things to see—all within two hours from here.

  • New Las Vegas guide made for men
As if Las Vegas wasn’t enough of a guilty pleasure, we boys have even more help to add to the fun of the perfect Vegas getaway. Currently on the shelves is the “Las Vegas Little Black Book: A Guy’s Guide to the Perfect Vegas Weekend,” written by co-authors David deMontmollin and Hiram Todd Norman.

Sports

  • UCLA loses title, barely survives Noah’s flood
I was wrong. Wrong in the sense that I picked the UCLA Bruins to win the national championship over the Florida Gators. Never in my mind did I expect Noah’s great flood to hit Indianapolis and wipe out any chances of merriment for the UCLA Bruins and their fans cheering back home in Westwood. Well not that Noah, Joakim Noah.
