Winning its 14th consecutive match with a record of 14-2, the Long Beach State women’s tennis team earned a No. 18 ranking that is the highest in school history. The women started the season ranked No. 57 and gradually moved up until they reached the No. 18 position. The Beach is a combined 39-9 in doubles matches under the coaching of Jenny Hilt-Costello, who is in her ninth year at LBSU.

The women beat University of Illinois-Chicago Tuesday and took two out of three doubles matches. UIC won at No. 1 doubles with Callan Smith and Corey Steven beating Sandra Rocha and Katy Williams. The 49ers dominated in singles matches, winning all six with Hannah Grady at the No. 1 spot beating UIC’s Smith. Grady is ranked No. 67 in the country in ITA Singles Rankings.

The Beach took the singles matches with Williams, Stephanie Bengson, Rocha, Jessica Weeks and Rachael Porsz all defeating their opponents.

On Monday, LBSU hosted Kansas State and won 4-3 by winning the doubles point and three singles matches. Again, Grady, Williams and Porsz defeated Kansas State in singles. The Beach has a young team with freshmen Grady, Weeks and Williams. Bengson and Emmanuelle Tabatruong are sophomores and the three juniors are Krystina Katayama, Porsz and Rocha.

The upcoming games for The Beach include playing at Fresno State March 31 and back home for the Florida Invitational April 6.
