49er women dribble around competition

The Long Beach State women’s basketball team increased their record to 13-5 overall and 6-0 in the Big West this past week with two wins against CSU Fullerton, 64-59, and UC Riverside, 62-59.

The 49er women have been playing at the top of their game so far this season. The win against UCR was the 49er’s sixth consecutive victory. The women have had the best season start since 1988-89.

Fernanda Santos had her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Crystal McCutcheon had 17 points against UCR and Karina Figueroa tallied 10 points. Figueroa is third all-time in career three-point field goals at LBSU.

Kemie Nkele had a 22- point game for UCR and the Highlanders collectively shot 10-of-19 from three-point range.
The 49ers next game is 2 p.m. Jan. 28 against UC Irvine in The Walter Pyramid.
