LeSage tough behind plate for LBSU softball

The Long Beach State women’s softball team has solid defense behind the plate in catcher sophomore Brooke LeSage as it heads into the last two months of the season.

LeSage came to LBSU right out of Corona High School on a full-ride scholarship with a major in communications.

While attending Corona High School, Le Sage started on varsity all four years and also played volleyball and basketball. Softball has been her passion since she was 6-years-old, watching her older brother play baseball.

“ I wanted to play baseball, but my dad talked me into softball,” LeSage said.

Sports and athletics are a huge part of LeSage’s life, especially because of her dad’s influence and love for sports.

“ I have always looked up to my dad,” LeSage said. “I got my athletic ability from him because he played baseball. I always heard what a great athlete he was from other people.”

Choosing LBSU was an easy choice for LeSage because of the scholarship, but the team unity and positive attitude of the players showed LeSage she made the right decision.

“ I have never seen a team get along so well,” she said. “Everyone does activities and hangs out after softball and it’s great.”

The team has done well so far this season with a 17-14 record and the anticipation of conference playoffs is on the horizon.

“ My hope is to win conference,” LeSage said.

LeSage said one of her best qualities is her competitive nature and drive to win and play her best during every game.

“ Competitiveness is a good thing if you know how to use it right,” LeSage said. “I put 120 percent out on the field.”

The women play Cal Poly San Luis Obisopo at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the softball complex.
