ASI President Pollock addresses accusations against her

I would like to address my fellow Cal State Long Beach students regarding the many false accusations made by Uduak-Joe Ntuk, an individual who ran for the student body presidency last year. Ntuk has circulated a petition that claims I, Jamie Pollock, have misappropriated funds and therefore students are eligible to receive a refund of their $88 mandatory student body fee.

As the individual being accused, it is only appropriate I take the opportunity to respond to these false allegations, especially because the petition and an accusatory e-mail from Ntuk have been widely circulated to a number of CSULB student inboxes.

As ASI president I have absolutely no authority to make budget adjustments or financial decisions. If Ntuk were to look closely at the ASI Bylaws, he would note the ASI treasurer is responsible for the “financial administration of Associated Students.” Furthermore, the financial operations for the corporation are conducted through the ASI Business office, not the ASI Government office.

Despite the many false accusations that have been circulating, I have kept my personal integrity and stayed truthful and honest. I would not be seeking re-election if I felt I had not been serving the students in the best possible manner for the past year. Additionally, if I had been involved in any illegal or unauthorized activities as he suggests, university officials would not allow me to seek re-election and I would not continue to enjoy the positive relationships I have established during the past year.

In closing, I ask you consider the underlying intent of Ntuks’s efforts to discredit me. It is not a coincidence this individual is circulating many misleading messages during my re-election campaign.

— Jamie A. Pollock, ASI president
