Senate appoints Ronald for elections officer

In a brief special meeting on Jan 11., the Associated Students Senate unanimously approved a resolution appointing the government elections officer for the coming semester.

Cortney Ronald, the College of Education’s former senator and current vice president, was approved without debate. Her approval was attributed both to her experience and because she was the only viable applicant.

“ I interviewed her and I personally think and we all came to the conclusion that since she was the only candidate [and] she’s very hard working, we think she’ll do a great job,” said Sen.-at-large Zion Redie.

" Redie moved to adopt the resolution after mentioning Ronald’s familiarity with the bylaws and rules because she has previous experience on both the Elections Commission and the Senate.

There were three applicants for the position, but one was found ineligible and another did not show up for the interview, according to Redie.

Of the 17 senators present, at least seven acknowledged they will not be running for re-election, of which Vice President Hironao Okahana said he will choose to represent the senators on the elections committee.

The next Senate meeting will be Jan. 25.
