Error found in referendum budget

Due to an error in the budget for the 49er and Dig Referendum, the projected annual budget the referendum requested was approximately $17,550 over the actual required budget, coming out to approximately 25 cents per student per semester more than actually needed.

The error was the result of a typo in the Dig magazine budget, which listed the hourly wage for the existing editors as $38. In actuality, the hourly wage for the existing Dig editors should be listed as approximately $8.75. The Daily Forty-Niner is investigating where the error originated.

The results of the student vote on the referendum are expected to be released today. If the referendum passes, the Daily Forty-Niner and Dig will work with the Student Fee Advisory Committee or the appropriate university entity to correct the budget mistake and take actions needed to ensure the final budget enacted is accurate.

Amanda Parsons, a Long Beach Union Weekly news director discovered the error and alerted the Daily Forty-Niner newsroom around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
