Health and junk food addicts can unite at University Dining Plaza

By Sandra Porter
Daily Forty-Niner

Cal State Long Beach has a wide variety of campus dining facilities located in the University Dining Plaza. From apples to sushi rolls, the plaza offers an array of foods to suit any student’s desire during and after a hard day of lectures, labs and research.

The facilities serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and can offer any student who is looking to fill his or her stomach with some junk food or a wholesome meal. Students may dine at the Nugget with their friends and classmates or grab a bite to go at various snack bars strategically set up throughout the entire campus.

There are six different restaurants in the University Dining Plaza including Taco Bell, Panda Express and a bakery. The Nugget and The Beach Walk Cafe are two school-themed restaurants also located in the dining plaza.

Clint Campbell, director of retail food operations said there will be new restaurant additions coming soon including the Great Steak Escape and Surf City Squeeze.

“I visit the dining facilities at least once a day for lunch and I spend about $10-15 a day,” said Nina Cannon, a business marketing student. But she does warn, “The food stand located in the front of the College of Business Administration building [doesn’t taste] very fresh. You never know what you’re going to get.”

To keep with the needs of college students everywhere, one must not forget the all important budget. CSULB can deliver most of what a student needs for a reasonable price on any given day.

Students may also visit the University Student Union dining facility, which has a Carl’s Jr., Subway, El Pollo Loco, Foster’s Freeze, Robek’s Juice, Round Table Pizza and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

Prices range from $5-7 for various meal combos at the restaurants. The USU dining facility offers healthy lunches such as the Turkey Breast or Italian BLT combo at Subway and sweet treats like a vanilla ice cream cone at Foster’s Freeze.

This semester, students will be able to choose from a variety of foods and beverages from the dining facilities and snack bars on campus. There will always be something to accommodate the budget and ease the hunger for all at CSULB, whatever their taste may be.
