Tennis • Beach
Tennis has been awarded an Intercollegiate
Tennis (ICT) Association National All
Academic Team Award in recognition of
their 3.4 grade point average. Beach
Tennis was the only Big West Conference
school to receive the award. These awards
piggy-back the Beach Tennis team again
taking the LB State Athletic High Team
GPA Award for the sixth time in nine
semesters. The ICT award is given
each semester amongst all the varsity
sports.
Language • Claude Goldenberg, a professor of teacher
education at Cal State Long Beach, appears on the PBS series “Becoming
Bilingual: The Challenges of Teaching English Language Learners to Read” currently
being aired around the country. It can be seen on http://www.readingrockets.org/tv/bilingual.php. “Becoming
Bilingual” is broadcast as part of a series titled “Reading
Rockets,” produced by the Washington, D.C.-based public television
station WETA.
Library • CSULB will host its seventh annual Summer
Children’s Literature Institute, which features award-winning children’s
authors and illustrators, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on the fifth floor
of the University Library. The all-day event features award-winning children’s
authors and illustrators who share their work and ideas with participants,
providing a unique and creative professional development experience for
teachers to improve their ability to integrate children’s literature
into the classroom.

Evan Longoria and pitcher Jared Hughes, found themselves in starting
positions Saturday as they were named to the East Squad for the 43rd annual
Cape Cod League All-Star Game, broadcast live on College Sports Television.

Woo-suk, and his team have successfully
cloned a dog for the first time. The
dog of choice is an Afghan hound, a resplendent
supermodel in a world of mutts, but ranked
by dog trainers as the least companionable
and most indifferent among the hundreds
of canine breeds.
Business • Adidas said Wednesday it will buy shoemaker
Reebok for $3.8 billion, giving the company about 20 percent of the U.S.
market and the potential to better challenge leader Nike Inc. on its home
turf. The deal brings together David Beckham and Missy Elliott, under contract
to Adidas, and Reebok’s shoe line with 50 Cent’s G Unit logo,
endorsed by such NBA stars as Allen Iverson and Yao Ming. |
