A Long Beach resident was killed after being struck by a truck leaving the Los Altos United Church parking lot on Atherton Street Saturday.

U.S. Marine sergeant Michael Tetreault Jr., 25, was leaving his home riding his motorcycle when driver Richard Flores of Long Beach hit Tetreault while exiting the parking lot.

“We thought he’d be safe now,” his wife, Nancy Tetreault, told the Long Beach Press-Telegram. He just missed being assigned to serve in Iraq.
It was reported that he was planning to be discharged from the Marines and work for a carbon dioxide liquefying company on Sept. 19.

Above, Tetreault’s wife, Nancy, attends to the flowers left at a memorial set up at the side of the accident.

To the right, flowers line the sidewalk at the intersection where Tetreault was struck by a vehicle pulling out of the adjacent lot.

Tetreault and his family have been Long Beach residents since 1993. Before joining the service, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reported he attended Long Beach City College, worked for Verizon and served in Japan for two years. He is survived by his father, mother, stepfather, stepmother, brothers, sister, grandparents, stepbrother, stepsisters, brother-in-law and other family members.

Police are investigating the incident. No funeral information is currently available.
