Two
weeks after their first tournament of the
spring season, the Long Beach State men's
golf team was back in action as they flew
to Hawaii to take part in the John Burns
Intercollegiate tournament held at the Leilehua
Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
After
the first round of play, The Beach was stuck
in the rough, but came out ready to swing
in the second round and shaved 15 shots
off their opening round score. They moved
to 20th place with a 1-over-par 289.
"We
are somewhere between disappointed and frustrated,"
49er Head Coach Bob Livingstone said. "We
know we are better than we are playing."
Sophomore
standout Brett Lederer led the way for The
Beach. He finished his second round with
a score of three under par and tied for
66th place in the tournament.
Ryan
Panichpakdee finished tied for 74th place
after two days, 3-over-par 147, while James
Logeman tied for 86th place.
On
the third and final round of play, the 49ers
shot their best round, a 295. With all scores
tallied, The Beach tied for 19th place with
a grand score of 888.
Lederer
improved two spots to tie for 64th place
at the invitational with a three-over-par
219 (77-69-73).
"It's
not what the shot looks like, but what the
final score is," Livingstone said.
"Lederer hit the ball badly, but got
the ball in the hole."
Logeman
tied for 80th place with a 223 (77-72- 74)
and Panichpakdee tied for 85th with a 224
(72-75-77).
"We
are going to take a couple days off, and
evaluate our strengths and weaknesses to
see what we need to do to play how we know
we are capable," Livingstone said.
Ryan
Moore of UNLV won the individual title,
after he shot an impressive 20-under-par
196 (67-65-64). Greg Machtaler of BYU, Spencer
Levin of New Mexico and Justin Madison of
San Jose State all tied for second place
with a score of 203.
