For
the second time, rain washed out the 49ers'
tennis match against San Diego State, however,
the skies cleared on Saturday as The Beach
traveled to Pepperdine only to be washed
away once more by the Waves, 5-2, at the
Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
With
the win, No. 37-ranked Pepperdine improved
to 3-2, while No. 59-ranked Long Beach State
fell to 2-2.
"We
definitely had some strong performances
on Saturday," 49er Head Coach Jennifer
Hilt-Costello said. "I thought that
we were the better team, but we just didn't
execute on the court."

LBSU's
two points in Saturday's match came at the
doubles court and then a lone win in singles
by senior Nicole Bouffler.
In
doubles play, the 49ers caught rhythm and
took the point.
At
court one, Bouffler and Sandra Rocha won
8-5 over Caroline Raba and Sylvia Kosakawski.
At court three, 49ers Nicoletta Ratiu and
Rachael Porsz swung past Natalie Braverman
and Lise Sissler, winning easily 8-3. The
sole loss came at court two where Alana
Carroll and Stephanie Bengson were defeated
by Bianca Dulgheru and Eva Dickes in a tough
back-and-forth match.
Bouffler,
who is ranked No. 113, upset No. 52-ranked
Braverman in singles play, to score The
Beach's second point of the day. Nonetheless,
the surging Waves proved to be too much
for the 49ers to overcome.
At
court two, Raba overpowered LBSU's Carroll,
winning by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Pepperdine's
Dulgheru dropped Bengson 6-3, 6-0 at court
three. At court four, Kosakowski swung past
49ers' Rocha to win 6-1, 6-0.
The
tides continued to turn in favor of the
Waves at court five as Dickes defeated Porsz
in three hard fought sets, 2-6, 6-2 and
a tie-breaking third set, 10-2. Pepperdine's
Sissler closed the match by beating Ratiu
6-2, 6-2.
