It
is a simple mathematical equation: almost
22 years plus four conference titles plus
five Big West Coach of the Year titles equals
800 career wins for LBSU softball Head Coach
Pete Manarino. Manario recorded the milestone
victory in the second game of Long Beach
State's three-game sweep of CSU Northridge
at the 49er Softball Complex over the weekend.
The 49ers improved to 28-13, 8-1 Big West
while CSUN dropped to 14-13, 3-6 Big West.
Senior
pitcher Marcel Torres led the way for The
Beach, when they beat the Matadors 5-0 in
the second game on Saturday. She threw for
seven innings and allowed just two hits
and one walk while striking out eight in
the process to improve her record to 10-6
on the season. Torres also went 2-for-3
at the plate with three RBIs.
Torres
gave the 49ers a 3-0 in the first inning
as she connected for a three-run homer.
The Beach added two more runs in the third
inning to seal the deal.
Torres
continued her hot hitting in the third game
of the series on Sunday as she went 3-for-4
with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored
in a 5-1 win.
Senior
pitcher Meredith Cervenka pitched 4.2 innings
while allowing just one run on six hits
to improve her record to 18-7 on the season.
LBSU
won the first game of the series Saturday
in a 1-0 pitcher's duel between Cervenka
and sophomore Erin Sigala of CSUN. The game
remained scoreless until the bottom of the
seventh when senior center fielder Lauren
Johnson singled with two out to score LeSage
to end the game.
