During
the season, softball Head Coach Pete Manarino
has stressed bringing the freshman along
slowly in the program and creating chemistry
with the veteren players. Freshman Lacy
Tyler has done that and more.
"She's
been working very hard in practice,"
Manarino said. "She just stepped up
for us this weekend."
Tyler
took the Big West Player of the Week award
after she recorded a .556 batting average,
eight RBIs and four runs scored last weekend
against conference rival, Pacific. Tyler
also had not hit a home run in her colligiate
career until this past weekend when she
hit three. In game one of the series on
April 9, Tyler went 2-for-3 with a solo
homer and a grand slam. She totaled five
RBIs on the day as she led the 49ers to
an 11-2 route of the Tigers. Tyler added
her third home run of the series in the
third and final game as LBSU defeated Pacific
11-3 on Sunday.

Tyler
is currently hitting .276 on the season
with three home runs, 15 RBIs and 16 runs
scored in her first season at LBSU.
Tyler
was a star athlete at La Miranda High School
as she was a four-time All-Suburban League
selection from 2001-04. That is only the
tip of the iceburg as Tyler received the
Offensive Player of the Year award for 2001-02.
In 2003, Tyler was named All-League, All-Area,
All-CIF and Defensive player of they year.
During
her senior year, Tyler won just about every
award imaginable as she once again took
home All-League, All-Area, and All-CIF honors.
She also received All-State, Dream Team
Honors and she was named both the Offensive
Player of the Year along with Suburban League
MVP.
