DeSantis
resigns from race
I,
Joseph DeSantis, with full understanding
of the consequences of this action, do hereby
withdraw my candidacy for vice president
of the Associated Students, Inc. I am withdrawing
in protest of inappropriate and vicious
campaign tactics waged against me.

In my long undergraduate and graduate career
here at Cal State University, Long Beach,
I have had experiences both good and bad.
Unfortunately this campaign has been one
of the latter.
Certain individuals have threatened to impugn
my integrity and I am disgusted by what
that implies about those individuals. I
will not be party to a system as debase
as this. I will not participate in it. I
have personally invested significant time
and resources into this campaign and I feel
that the loss of that investment can only
be justified if this withdrawal makes students
pay attention to what is happening in their
community.
With my withdrawal, there is only one candidate
on the ballot for ASI vice president. ASI
bylaws and election regulations state that
the election of any position requires two
or more eligible candidates. According to
the same bylaws and regulations, this withdrawal
is legitimate and creates this single-candidate
scenario.
Further, said bylaws and regulations require
the reopening of filing for the position
of vice president and a new election. I
ask the few individuals in whom I still
believe to help restore that faith. I am
sorry for the difficulties this will undoubtedly
cause, but I truly feel that this is a course
of action I must take.
