Robert
Garcia went from ASI President at Cal State
Long Beach to just Long Beach as an assistant
administrative analyst for Frank Colonna's
3rd District staff.
Garcia
is replacing longtime staff member Jeannine
Critie, who recently retired. Some of the
duties he is responsible for include assisting
Colonna with coordinating legislation at
the federal and state level, as well as
supervising 3rd District media communication
and media relations for Colonna. In addition,
he participates in staffing council committees
and memberships and the Alameda Corridor.
"We're
delighted to have Robert join our team,"
said Councilman Colonna. "I have always
tried to bring in people who love and care
about Long Beach and the district. Robert
has proven himself as one of the city's
young leaders."
In
2000, Garcia served as student body president
at CSULB where he received his bachelor's
degree in communication studies. During
his term as ASI president, Garcia helped
lead to the creations of the Beach Patrol
and the Beach Pride Center. It were these
experiences that contributed to him becoming
interested in the field of politics and
ultimately wanting to give back to the community.
"I
love the City of Long Beach," said
Garcia. "I [have loved] Cal State Long
Beach and the whole community since I moved
here. I'm grateful that I can help represent
my neighborhood and neighbors."
Garcia,
a resident of the Long Beach area for nine
years, served as director of the Richard
Nixon Library in 2003 before joining the
3rd District team. As director of the Nixon
Library he served as a spokesman and controlled
publicity and media relations. He was also
Director of Development and Public Affairs
for St. Anthony High School.
This
experience has earned Garcia the respect
of not only his peers but several students
at CSULB.
"It
feels good to see Long Beach State alumnus
doing well and giving back," said CSULB
sophomore David Walker. "First Stephen
Spielberg, then Jason Giambi, now Robert
Garcia. He's making the whole campus proud
and I only see things getting brighter for
him in the future."
Garcia's
top priority is to complete his academic
career at the University of Southern California
Annenberg School for Communication where
he will receive his master's in communication
management this spring and continue to aid
Colonna until the end of his term.
Colonna's
3rd District staff covers Belmont Shore,
Naples, and the majority of Southeastern
Long Beach.
