Look hot this spring with fashion's best trends

With the sun preparing to break through the clouds heralding spring's emergence, we need to prepare our closet by stocking up with the coolest clothes. Here is a guide to help update your fall wardrobe with pieces that are the hottest for spring.

Ladies, think of a bohemian and feminine vibe on a safari or sailor adventure as inspirations.

The Head — The idea for hair and makeup this spring is to keep it all natural. Try keeping hair in a "not so perfect" kind of look. This can be done with messy up-dos such as side-swept buns or buns with hair covering them. Wearing hair down in messy waves is the new craze with Victoria Secret's Gisele and Sarah Jessica Parker of "Sex and the City" leading the pack.

Makeup should look like none is being worn, with soft hints of gold. When it's too bright outside, slap on some aviator sunglasses to cover the eyes.

Shirts — Polo tees are a staple this season and blouses are updated with tone-on-tone polka dots.

Jackets — For those chilly nights, it's best to wear a khaki trench coat that has untraditional features, cropped at the knee, in linen, with the sleeves scrunched up. The fitted jacket is also a better pick than a cardigan. Wear the jacket cropped with sharp tailoring in natural fabrics and light neutral hues.

Skirts — Spin around in the field of flowers, with circle or full skirts. These will keep you looking hotter than the sun and feeling oh-so-young.

Pants — Continuing from the fall lines are the baggy pants. The best pairs to buy are those with a sailor style to carry out a nautical appeal. Try those with ropes or gold buttons in navy or white. Match these with a fitted top to keep looking feminine.

Shoes — Skip the kitten and stiletto heels this season and opt for wedges. These were the hottest shoes on the runway in cork, wood, plain or prints. Second best are Grecian sandals that tie at the ankle.

Belts — These accents are no longer hanging on the waist. This season's belts are cinching the waist to show off the figure. Best ones to try are very wide, roped or brown leathered.

Extras — While shopping, keep in mind that safari, nautical and bohemian styles are the best. Khaki, white, coral and turquoise are the colors of the season. Crochet, wood and ropes are wonderful accents. Marine-life motifs, eyelets and blocks of bright colors hit fabrics this spring. Falling back to fall, trends are still keeping the metallics in silver and gold for accessories, animal prints and scarf patterned dresses.

Gentlemen, there is no better way to keep up to date than to look safari, prep or classic all rolled into one. Imagine going on a Riviera tour. There's a lot of texture, stripes, graphics and brights in clothing this spring.

Sport safari — Dressing in khaki is a great way to stay cool and look in-style. Wearing khaki head-to-toe looks classy and clean. Make a statement with stylized zippers, buttons and pockets.

Prepare for prep — Deconstructed classics are hot right now. Picture preppy gone wild.

Dress up the denim — Dark and fitted denim is the best way to go.

Best in business — Show off your intellectual side by sporting a "perfect white shirt" with a crisp collar. Ties that are brightly colored with paisley prints are the perfect eye-catcher and thin ones make a statement.

Silhouette suit — Two-buttoned, slim-fitting suits have been in since fall. These suits offer a modern twist, an elegant flair and will help land any internship interview.

Wear white — White is cooler for hot weather and is also placing itself on all sorts of apparel this season. It looks crisp and best on a jacket and worn in the evening. Consider it the new black.

Coolest colors — The only way to go with color is bright. Acid yellow and green are the best choices.

Layer look — Don't ditch the layers quite yet. Wear a button-down tee with the top few buttons unfastened, with the bare chest showing or a tank underneath. Throw a scarf around the neck and let it hang for cooler weather at night. The top layer should be a fitted blazer in linen, light denim or military style.

Start searching for the serious spring staples and look hot and stay cool all season long. Check out www.mensfashion.about.com, www.teenfashion.about.com, GQ, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Jane for inspirations and stores to buy these items.
