Well,
you made it. Congratulations, you now
have summer to relax, or take summer
school, or worry about taking summer
school. Either way it's all good. I put
together a little going away present
for all y'all: a list of great concerts
to check out and spend your summer cash
on. Congrats to all you graduates, see
the rest of you next semester, folks.
God, I wish I was done.

June: Bad Religion at Various House of
Blues venues
Bad Religion plays at the San Diego, Anaheim and Los Angeles House of Blues
throughout the month of June. Visit www.hob.com for more information.
June
2 and 3 Pixies at The Wiltern LG
Two days of the most influential band this side of Avril Lavigne (see below).
June
5 The Get Up Kids and Limbeck at The
Glasshouse
This is your last chance ever to see The Get Up Kids live. Unless you have
some sort of time machine, in which case, could you go back and make me start
my article earlier?
June
6 The Fantomas and Neil Hamburger
Mike Patton headlines with the Fantomas while Neil Ham-burger's classic "bad
comedy" opens the show. And I'm not talking about bad comedy in "Blue
Collar Comedy" terms, you should actually laugh at this stuff.
June
9 Eisley at The Glasshouse
Good music, cute girls; we are one dumb, chubby, white guy away from a beer
commercial. All kidding aside, Eisley is one of the sleeper contenders for "best
band around," a category I made up all by myself.
June
12 The Bright Eyes and The Faint at The
Grove of Anaheim
Connor Oberst's lyrics are so perfect that Johnny Depp is going to go backstage
after the show and shoot him.
June
14 Wilco and The Roots at The Greek Theatre
The Roots continue their tradition of opening for non-rap artists. Jeff Tweedy
hopefully continues his tradition of being sober. I continue my tradition of
not knowing how to finish a joke.
June
14 The Doves at The Wiltern
Britain's best band (yeah, you heard me) makes it back to Los Angeles after
canceling their Coachella performance.
June
21 Junior Senior at The Spaceland
This half-gay, half-straight Danish band should make the red staters sweat
while the blue staters dance.
June
26 David Byrne and The Arcade Fire at
The Hollywood Bowl
The Arcade Fire proves it: Montreal is the new New York City, only with Mounties
and better maple syrup.
July
2 Cafe Tacuba and Kinky at Anaheim House
Of Blues
$42! Well, it is Kinky, though I have to save my money for the concert that's
next on the list.
July
13 Hillary Duff at The Pacific Amphitheatre
Yeah right, you're taking your little sister because you're a "good brother." Right.
July
17 The Basement Jaxx at The Hollywood
Bowl
KCRW puts on the best freakin' shows at the Hollywood Bowl. The best part:
$4 and $6 tickets. Now I can afford that operation, too.
July
22 to 23 Beck at Gibson Amphitheatre
Yes, Gibson bought the naming rights to Universal Amphithe-atre. Other possible
names included "Halliburton's World Domination Amphitheatre" and
the "Los Angeles Universal Amphitheatre of Anaheim."
July
30 Los Lonely Boys and Ozomatli at Greek
Theatre
When will bands learn: never, ever have Ozomatli open for you. The Los Lonely
Boys will be blown so far off stage that they can see their houses from the
air.
Aug.
4 to 5 Devo at HOB-ANA
$62 for tickets? Talk about de-evolution.
Aug.
7 Jack Johnson at Verizon Wireless Amp.
Look, I'm not a Jack Johnson fan, but it is impossible to dislike the guy.
Look at him; he looks like the nicest guy in the world. I still regret
jacking his donut that one June morning.
Aug.
11 to 12 Avril Lavigne at Greek Theatre
With every single new teen singer trying to act "punk-rock" is it
really that much of a stretch to say that Avril might be the most influential
artist in music today?
Aug.
14 "Teen Choice Awards"at The
Gibson Amphitheatre
I'll give 2-1 odds that Simple Plan will be playing this thing.
Aug.17 "American
Idol Live"at The Staples Center
I'll be there with a laser pointed to disrupt Scott Savol's set. What that
laser pointer will be attached to I haven't decided quite yet. |
