- Professor makes 400-mile commute
to teach
Tim
Howard, a Cal State Long Beach
instructor, is so dedicated to
his job that despite his fear
of flying he anxiously boards
a JetBlue A-320 plane every Monday
evening to teach a public relations
class in the journalism department
at The
Beach.
Opinion
- Our
View: Celebrity obsession
overdone, pointless
Many difficulties
are plaguing the American
conscious lately. The ongoing
struggle abroad, another
possible recession, the blatant
corruption within the Bush
administration,
and for many students,
final exams. But recently there has been a surge in public concern and awareness
for a different kind of interest—the lives of celebrities.
- People
should stop undermining police
efforts
One
of the things I hate about
this state is the way we turn
on our police at the drop of
a hat. These men and women
routinely put their lives at
risk to ensure our safety.
- Rap music lost original purpose,
materialistic
Rap music has had many contributions to society.
Diversions
- Local
bands
compete
for money,
prizes,
recognition
Musical diversity and
originality won out over volume and stage presence Friday night at Cal State
Long Beach’s Battle of the Bands.
- Tommy
Lee Jones directing
effort worth viewing
“The
Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada” is
the second film Tommy Lee Jones
has directed, and it’s his
first film to be released in theaters.
The film comes 10 years after his
first TV film, “The Good
Old Boys.” The “Three
Burials of Melquiades Estrada” stars
Tommy Lee Jones, Barry Pepper,
Julio Cedillo and January in a
film about friendship, a promise
made and kept, vigilante justice
and an involuntary quest for redemption.
- ‘
Enlighten’ isn’t
quite enlightening enough for
players
To
enlighten: to give spiritual
insight to (Merriam Webster).
Sports
- Bush wins Heisman hands down
The lack of
suspense resembled the climax
of a Superman
movie or any other movie
when everyone knows who will
win.
- 49er offense stumbles, Spartans
win 69-56
The usually high-octane 49er offense
sputtered in The Walter Pyramid
Saturday afternoon, as the San
Jose State Spartans handed the
Beach their fifth loss of
the season, 69-56.
- Rollercoaster
beginning for men’s basketball
The
first seven games of the season
have been nothing less than
a roller coaster ride for the
Long Beach State men’s
basketball team.
