Opinion

  • Our View: Two sides to Tookie’s jail tale
The death penalty is a black and white issue capable of destructive polarization to this country. Life or death, which does a convicted man or woman deserve? Such decisions are difficult and endlessly debatable.

  • Illegal immigrants deserve chance in America
Not a lot of things manage to get far beneath my skin, but I’m really sick and tired of the people who call themselves the “Minutemen.” They have managed to pervade the news, promoting their ideology that Latinos, many of them Mexican, who enter the United States illegally, deserve immediate deportation.

  • Common English language errors need change
The Latino population is on the rise. According to the 2002 government census, Latinos make up 34.7 million of the 296 million people living in the United States.

    Diversions

  • ‘Patrick’ charms audiences at the Long Beach Playhouse
The opening night of a stage production often reveals how well the cast members work together. Sometimes the players have that connection and sometimes they don’t.

    Sports

  • 49ers deliver beating, dominate CSUSF Gators 108-51
It only hurt once—at least that’s what the head coach of the San Francisco State Gators could have told his troops in efforts to console them after enduring a massive 57-point beating at the hands of the Long Beach State men’s basketball team Sunday afternoon in The Walter Pyramid.
