News

  • Ethical center opens to teach character
The newest addition to the campus, the Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership, celebrated its grand opening Wednesday night. Supported by three separate grants totaling $4.5 million, the Ukleja Center will promote the development of ethics in the classroom and the community.
  • Senator proposes dorm meal plan makeover
The restricting dormitory meal plans at Cal State Long Beach have led Associated Students, Inc. Sen. Amin Km to present the Flex Plan, a proposal that will enable dorm students to spend their meal money at all on-campus restaurants currently accepting Beach Club.

Opinion

  • Our View: Urban field of dreams deserves preservation
For over a decade, residents in South Los Angeles have had a small 14-acre pocket of undeveloped land, the South Central Community Garden, in the middle of the concrete jungle.
  • President’s new nomination worthy of seat
It has only been a few days since President George W. Bush nominated 3rd District Appellate Court Justice Samuel Alito Jr. to fill the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court that will be created once Justice Sandra Day O’Connor retires.
  • Hoosier’s California hype hardly worthwhile
Recently I left the land of beaches, fake boobs and bronzed bodies to go back to my hometown of Indianapolis. My home is happily filled with pasty, overweight truckers and car mechanics who enjoy fancy dinners at Applebee’s on Friday nights.

Sports

  • World Series thrilling ride for baseball addicts
Great pitching, some good old-fashioned small ball, one gutsy manager, and four games—that’s all it took for the Chicago White Sox to finish off the Houston Astros and become world champions for the first time since 1917.
