News

  • Reichard kicks off presidential finalist forums
Gary Reichard met with students, faculty and staff members Monday, but instead of acting as an administrator, he was answering questions about his presidential candidacy.
  • Presidential hopeful, Wells, visits campus
After President Robert C. Maxson announced his plans for retirement earlier this year, a presidential search committee began to contact the nation’s top administrative educators, such as University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Chancellor, Robert H. Wells, as possible candidates for the presidency of CSULB.

  • Hispanic financial aid trends not noticeable at CSULB
Federal aid for Hispanics has proven to be lacking on a national level but evidence from home does not seem to be cause for alarm.
  • Chi Delta Theta hosts Filipina filmmaker
In celebration of Filipino American Heritage Month, the women of Chi Delta Theta honored Filipina filmmaker, Rhianne Paz Bergado last week with a viewing of her documentaries in the Anatol Center, located at the University Library.
  • Marathon festivities consume Long Beach
The Long Beach International City Bank Marathon is considered to be a warm-up for the New York Marathon, according to Lauren Feldhaus.

Opinion

  • Our View: Prop 75 protects the union members
You know its election season when the number of commercials promoted by lobbyists out number those of Apple Computers and Carl’s Jr. They are unavoidable.

  • ‘Recreation Center’ survey flawed, rigged
Either by mistake or by design, the “Student Recreation Needs Assessment,” which was supposed to be sent to the e-mail accounts of all of Cal State Long Beach’s students, was embedded with HTML programming that has prevented many students from submitting a survey that opposed the rec center and increased student tuition.
  • Artificial insemination is against God’s will
Most people believe a child is the most precious gift in the world. Whether it is the old-fashioned way or through fertilization, couples across the globe strive to acquire the miraculous gift of a child in their lives.

Diversions

  • The Lovemakers debut disappoints listeners
Two and a half decades ago, catchy hooks and dance hits of the new wave genre ruled the air waves. The Lovemakers, hailing straight out of Oakland, attempt to shallowly recreate an ’80s dance revival with their debut album “Times of Romance.”

Sports

  • 49ers dominate Titans, pound Highlanders
A blast from the left side capped off a decisive game- three victory over the UC Riverside Highlanders and a dominating weekend was an ideal present for Long Beach State outside hitter Quincy Verdin.
