- Students
struggle to deal with 'helicopter
parents'
Nationwide,
campuses are noting an increase
of parents involved in their children’s
college education and daily decision-making.
Consequently, this leaves many
students no room for growth or
independence. Some call them “helicopter
parents.”
- Beach
Pride discount has limited
success
Beach
Pride Tuesdays are back this
semester, and there is a
new incentive to sport the
black and gold. Any student
wearing Beach attire or the
newly-minted “Go
Beach” wristbands to any of the 49er Shops will get a 10 percent discount.
- Choosing
required classes proves a
struggle
The fall 2005 semester
has officially started and, as usual, students are trying to add classes they
need at the last minute.
- Hurricane
Katrina Disaster Relief Information
The
nursing and engineering departments
in conjunction with the American
Red Cross are currently collaborating
to spearhead a disaster relief effort
for hurricane victims. Today through
Sept. 16 there will be donation stations
at the University Bookstore, at the
Learning Center inside the nursing
building, and at the Outpost. Associated
Students, Inc., in collaboration
with the Student Athlete Advisory
Committee, will have a donation container
available at ASI Recruitment Night,
Week of Welcome and in the ASI Office
(USU-311).

- Our
view: Criticism not helping
hurricane victims
In
the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina,
the United States is taking undeserved
criticism from the rest of the
world, as evidenced by a Reuters
article titled, “World stunned
as U.S. struggles with Katrina.”
- First
Amendment rights require
responsibility
The
First Amendment is arguably the most
essential portion of the Bill of
Rights. It guarantees citizens the
right to self-expression and ensures
the government doesn’t take
that right from any citizen.
- MTV
Video Music Awards ratings
dip, bad situation
This
year's MTV Video Music Awards may
have been a better show than last
year’s, but the festivities
could not help seeing a dramatic
decline in ratings this year.
- Ad
campaigns bring in more appropriate
models
A
fashion model is often thought of
as a thin, tall, tan and toned girl
who looks perfect in every outfit
without a flaw in sight. Well, only
about 2 percent of the women in the
world fit that category, while the
rest of us try to see where we fit
into the definition of beauty.

Headliners,
flatliners play the Galaxy
Last
Friday the Galaxy Theater brought
Shonen Knife to Santa Ana all
the way from Osaka, Japan. Unfortunately,
the pop-rock trio left their
talent on the other side of the
Pacific.

Concert
etiquette necessary
for fans
SAN
DIEGO (U-Wire) — I
recently attended a set of
four concerts
in one week. I went to both
days of Street Scene, saw
311 play in Anaheim the following
Monday and finished up with System of a Down that Saturday.
