49ers sink to UC Davis Aggies

Long Beach students gathered Saturday afternoon to support the men’s water polo team as they played against the No.3-ranked Stanford Cardinal at The Campus Pool.

The 49ers worked together to battle the Cardinal, but came short by two points, loosing 10-8.

The game got off to a great start, with each team scoring three points in the first quarter. In the second quarter,

Stanford outscored the 49ers by one point, 5-4, seconds before the buzzer.

Panic among the 49er fans set in when Stanford took a four-point lead in the third quarter taking charge of the game, 9-5.

By the fourth quarter 49er fans gained back hope when Erik Geoffroy scored a goal, one of his four in the game. The 49ers rallied the Cardinal but came short by two points at the end of the game.

LBSU goalie Thomas Onyshko, had five saves putting him at 178 saves this season.

The loss for the 49ers puts the record at 15-9 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Jay Gerardi, Stefan Ludecke, Brad Scoels and Brett McCleave all scored one goal. The 49ers struggled toward the end of the game and fell short against the Aggies. The 49ers will play Saturday at USC.
