Women’s soccer - Long Beach State defeated the Pacific Tigers1-0 in their conference opener Sept. 30, but an injury to freshman Hayley Bolt took her out in the second half.

Before her injury, Bolt scored the winning goal thanks to Sahar Haghdan’s aggressive play against Pacific’s defense.

LBSU dominated most of the match and the Tigers could not score on a chance by Mandi Van Dorn and Carla Velluntini.

Pacific held tight defense when Liz Romo and Bolt fired a few shots early on. The win puts the 49ers at 8-2-1 and 1-0 in conference play.

LBSU kick off a four-game homestand Oct. 7 when they host Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Men’s Water Polo - The 49ers played the UC San Diego Tritons Oct. 1 and lost in the last 10 seconds of the game, 9-8.

The No. 5-ranked Tritons have dominated LBSU, beating them three times this season.

The 49ers scored early with Brad Scoles having three, Brett McCleave scored twice and Jay Gerardi, Stefan Ludecke and Erik Geoffroy each scored once.

Goalie Thomas Onyshko had 12 saves for LBSU, but the Tritons Brandon Borso came through with the game-winning goal at the end. The loss puts the 49ers at 12-5.

LBSU will play in the Cal Baptist Tournament in Riverside Saturday.
