California special election wasteful, money can be spent elsewhere

I agree that the simplification that “Arnold equals bad” is ridiculous but the simplification that the Our View section on Nov. 10 of the Daily Forty-Niner that implies “change equals good” is just as ridiculous.

Yes, Arnold was elected to reform California. There are numerous problems that need to be fixed; the way in which he proposed to fix the problems weren’t exactly the answer.

Not all change is good, and change for the sake of change is extremely problematic. I’m glad the problem of gerrymandering was addressed, but having three retired un-elected judges redistrict all of California was quite ridiculous.
Just because it is one solution to the greater problem doesn’t mean that it is the only solution. It’s time to get back to the drawing board on that one.

This was a non-urgent special election. There were no pressing issues needing to be addressed. It was just a waste of tax dollars to put it on.

Shouldn’t that money have been spent on fixing some of California’s problems? Maybe the deficit?

- Andrew Hilbert, sophomore history major
