Getting
all perspectives on President Bush
Ashley Thomas
I would consider myself to be a fairly conservative Republican, which often causes
obstacles because I live in a democratic state. Every day on campus and in the
dorms I hear people slandering President George W. Bush and his administration.
Even though it is hard to swallow, I usually keep my mouth shut and keep walking
without a rebuttal in Bush’s defense.
I am outraged by the lack of faith and patriotism shown by my fellow Americans.
I am appalled at the amount of ignorance I see. How could anyone become so bitter
against one person? How could anyone say our president’s personal finances
benefit from the war in Iraq?
Bush has earned a reputation as a compassionate conservative with high morals.
I agree with this reputation. I don’t think he sends his fellow Americans
off to war so he can put more money in his already overflowing bank account.
He is our commander in chief and our voice to the world. He’s our president.
He became president to try and make a better America, not to add more pennies
to his wallet.
Some think Bush owns companies that benefit from war time, companies that make
weapons, ammunition and other resources our armed forces need right now. Despite
what has been said, Bush holds no personal contacts with such companies.
Bush is a wealthy man. He is worth millions and he made it all in an honest way.
Consider his career thus far in life.
After graduating from Harvard, he worked in the oil and gas industry, first as
owner then as a president of an oil company. After the oil business started to
drip away he became part- owner of the Texas Rangers.
Right before being elected
governor of Texas, he made the smartest decision in his financial life and sold
his portion of the Rangers. Now he’s president.
In all my research from valid and credible sources, I did not find any mention
of any other business that he was or is involved with, making claims of his dirty
business ties invalid.
Perhaps the problem is the network of misleading information. This is an easily
fixed problem for those looking to see all sides of the spectrum. If you would
like to know more about our president, look around.
Sources include the Republican
Party Web site. Or even better, the White Houses’ Web site. As a public
official, the government should contain accurate information on him.
If you’re a disgruntled American pissed off at Bush, get up off your dead
butt and do something about it. Stop presuming things. Get your facts right.
Make sure they are from credible sources who know the truth. To those doing such
wrongs, I am ashamed to call you my fellow American.
