Avenged Sevenfold music reviewer unqualified

After reading your reporter’s scathing criticism of the Avenged Sevenfold in the Sept. 26 edition of the Daily Forty-Niner, titled “Avenged: less solos,” I felt it necessary to write to you about my anger at his apparent lack of musical analysis.

As a personal acquaintance of the lead guitarist and long time A7X fan, I feel you reporter downplayed the band’s unique sound, which is unable to be classified. A7X has created a new musical sound, which has stylistically and technically evolved since the band’s founding.

This sound sets them apart from any other popular rock band commonly played on the radio. While this point was mentioned in passing, the bulk of the article was aimed at criticizing the band’s use of, in the reporter’s opinion, too many guitar solos.

I find this absurd because the solos are used intentionally to heighten the emotions the songs are trying to convey. These solos are also a key element of the band’s style that allows its music to cross many musical genres.

While A7X has ventured beyond the three-minute, mainstream rock song with the use of these solos, proving its musical talent and individuality, your reporter led readers to believe this is a bad quality.

If your reporter is unable to appreciate and explore new sounds and styles of music, then perhaps he is unfit to be voicing his opinion on the subject.
