Sally Bulquerin resigned from her position as Associated Students, Inc. administrator
Nov. 23, according to a press release from ASI.
ASI President Jamie Pollock, who originally appointed Bulquerin as administrator,
will interview applicants for the position during the winter break, said Kim
Hinkston, the assistant director for Student Involvement and Leadership.
Bulquerin gave no specific reason for leaving; however, Hinkston and Pollock
cited a conflict with the Executive Fellowship requirements.
“
The policy requires students not work outside of their positions,” Hinkston
said. Bulquerin has a job off campus, according to both Pollock and Hinkston.
“
It was her choice to resign,” Pollock said. “She was given many
options with the changes with the fellowship.”
Pollock also said it is difficult to have a leadership change in the middle
of the academic year.
“
We’re keeping morale high among the commissioners and keep[ing] everyone
focused,” Pollock said.
The fellowship gives a $1,300 monthly stipend and requires 32 hours a week
of work.
“
Those hours include being in the office [and] attending meetings and events,” Hinkston
said.
Position duties include assisting the president, being a voting member of the
Program Council and overseeing the commissions, which includes recruiting commissioners,
Hinkston said.
Hinkston said while nothing has been put in writing, Pollock is looking to
fill the position in the spring. After she selects a candidate, the AS Senate
must approve him or her.
Pollock said while Bulquerin was a great asset to ASI, “this is a great
opportunity for another student.”
“
We haven’t received many [applications] yet,” Pollock said. “This
is still pretty fresh news to us, but I’m sure we’ll get a decent
amount.”
The administrator is one of five ASI executive officers, which currently includes
Pollock, Vice President Hironao Okahana, Treasurer Zaira Tinoco and Chief of
Staff Robert Godina.
Bulquerin was unavailable for comment.
Applications are available in the ASI office, USU-311. The position is open
to all students.
