So
many concerts, so little time

Firmly entrenched in our semester, October is the month to finally begin to comprehend
that December term paper and decide whether or not we are really too old to go
trick-or-treating.
October is also a pretty good month for concerts. Many fall tours launch this
month and summer tours are ending. Here are some of the best shows of the month
where goblins rule and a scary fact awaits us: it’s only one month until
the special election.
Death From Above 1979
@ the Glasshouse, Oct. 12.
One of the best new bands around, DFA79 is currently mixing its own shows with
opening dates for Nine Inch Nails. Their aggressive sounds should fit the venue
quite well.
Fat Joe @ the HOB,
Anaheim, Oct. 12.
Come see Fat Joe before he is cut down by 50 Cent and G-G-G-G-G Unit.
Turbonegro, the (International) Noise Conspiracy and Juliette and the Licks @
the Henry Fonda, Oct. 15.
Turbonegro is kind of like Spinal Tap, except if Turbonegro did that Stonehenge
thing they would probably look you straight in the eyes with a serious expression
and say something like “That was pretty rock and rock, wasn’t that?”
Architecture in Helsinki
@ the Troubadour, Oct. 16.
You’re so indie if you go to this show. If you came to my house and went
through my “indie-detector” you would beep and all of us would stand
back and go “damn, that kid is so indie.”
Kinky @ the Knitting
Factory, Oct. 19.
All I’ll say to you about this show is you have no idea how good this show
will be and if you don’t go then I will hunt you down and remind you of
it for the rest of the year.
Gogol Bordello, Throw Rag
@ the Troubadour, Oct. 22.
I don’t think any of us are listening to enjoy gypsy punk, if you ask me.
The Foo Fighters, Weezer and Hot Hot Heat @ the Long Beach Arena,
Oct. 22 and 23.
This does seem to be the monster tour of the month, thanks to the fact that Weezer
and the Foo Fighters take up about 55 percent of all alternative radio airplay.
Yes, the songs are over played but it’s really hard to dislike the Foo
Fighters, one of the most likeable bands in rock history. Weezer is cool too
if you omit their latest album’“Make Believe.”
Our Lady Peace @ the Henry Fonda, Oct. 27.
Our Lady Peace is one of those bands that always put out consistently good albums
and always played consistently good shows in the ‘90s but because of bands
like Creed and Limp Bizkit it never got its due. Now due to bands like Franz
Ferdinand and Fall Out Boy it won’t get it this decade either.
The Nintendo Fusion Tour with Fall Out Boy and the Starting Line @ the Wiltern
LG, Oct. 27.
I heard Fall Out Boy is going down, down in an earlier round. This show should
be a No. 1 with a bullet, something like a loaded god complex, cock it and pull
it. Hey, they should write
a song about it.
Sage Francis @ the Henry Fonda, Oct. 28.
In a perfect world, Sage Francis would be playing the stadiums while 50 Cent
would be playing clubs.
Bauhaus @ the Wiltern Theater, Oct. 29.
How awesome would it be if you wore a bright red Hawaiian shirt to this show
and you walked around saying “Hey, you look sad, you should turn that frown
upside-down!”
