Roc-A-Fella records artist, rap sensation and producer Kanye West brought his
second album, “Late Registration,” to stores last week.
Unlike many other rap albums, the 21-track album has variety and class. West
speaks inspiration, truth, humor and style with powerful lyrics and creative
beats throughout the album.
The 28-year-old rapper caught the attention of fans when songs like “Diamonds
From Sierra Leone” and “Gold Digger” debuted on various stations
and blasted out of speakers while influencing fans with his individual style
and flow.
West is inspiring throughout many tracks, including “Heard 'Em Say,” as
the chorus reads, “heard 'em say nothing’s ever promised tomorrow
or today, but we’ll find a way.”
The soft vocals of Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and the smooth, gentle bass line
throughout the song gives the track an R&B, hip-hop mix.
“Touch the Sky,” the following track, has an upbeat feel, with West’s
lyrics, trumpets and cymbals sounding loud and clear throughout the song.
R&B singer Brandy is also featured on West’s album, singing the chorus
in the song “Bring Me Down,” one of several banging tracks on the
album. The steady, upbeat song speaks of people bringing others down while
doing well in life, as Brandy sings, “Always knew that one day, they’d
try to bring me down, way down.”
But the track “Addiction” will definitely encourage fans to turn
up the volume. West raps about people who are addicted to many things in life,
even though addictions are bad, because the chorus reads, “Why everything
that supposed to be bad makes me feel so good?”
Additionally, humorous skits are scattered throughout the album. In the first
one, men portraying a made-up fraternity “Broke Phi Broke” chant “Broke
Phi Broke, we ain't got it.”
West has used his talents to produce songs on various albums, such as Jay-Z’s
album, “The Blueprint,” where he produced the track, “Izzo
(H.O.V.A.),” “Never Change,” and “The Takeover,” Rolling
Stone reported.
“It’s hard when people are depending on you to have an album that’s
not just good, but inspired,” stated West on the Roc-A-Fella Web site. “I
mean, my music isn’t just music — it’s medicine.”
Rolling Stone also reported West has contributed to other rap artists’ albums,
such as Scarface, Ludacris, Beanie Sigel and many more.
“Late Registration,” is a must-hear and definitely has the potential
to influence fans and other rap artists because of his style and presence.
His lyrics make fans think, laugh and dance, something many rap artists simply
cannot accomplish.
