Internet
not seen as fool-proof to hackers
As Cal State Long Beach builds
more links to the information
superhighway with programs like
My CSULB and Beachboard, the
university and its vendors must
remain constantly vigilant to
protect students, staff and
faculty from intellectual and
identity theft. The computer
industry has long recognized
that no Web-based system is
completely invulnerable to hackers,
so any information that is available
over the Internet could eventually
fall prey to someone determined
enough to find it.

CSULB
ranked 10th for Hispanic degrees
In
the May issue of Hispanic Outlook
in Higher Education, Cal State
Long Beach was ranked 10th on
the list of "Top 100"
schools in awarding Bachelors
degrees to Hispanics. CSULB
was also ranked 21st in conferring
Master's degrees. In total,
18 schools in the California
State University system (CSU)
made the list.

Our
View: How
real is reality television
For too long, we have been watching
Reality TV and helping reality
television's ratings rise. The
trend hit worldwide with "Big
Brother" launching its
series around Europe and now
even A&E cable is joining
in with a show called "Intervention,"
where a lucky addict is confronted
by friends and family about
their problem. Is this taking
reality too far?
