Accepting
blame
This
is concerning the article about the Armenian
genocide in the May 11 issue. Clearly Isil
Sumertas Rahmanian has a point of giving
"peace a chance", however, let
us not overlook the facts.
Before
the mass killing of 1.5 million Armenians
in 1915, the genocide had been occurring
for many years. There are numerous documentaries
filmed by the Germans who were then allies
with the Turks.
After
the mass killings of 1915, the genocide
had not ended. The killings continued until
1923-1924. To justify his actions, Hitler
said, "Who now remembers the extermination
of the Armenians."
The
only reason the Turks wanted to destroy
Armenians was because the Armenians were
becoming stronger and achieving higher positions
in Turkish government. The Armenians were
starting to have control over the capital
of the Turkish government and were also
advancing intellectually. This is what Hitler
did to the Jews, along with other minorities.
In
the article, Rahmanian reverses all the
known facts of the Armenian genocide and
makes it look as if it were the Armenians
who started the genocide. As an Armenian,
I can say that all Armenians want is for
the Turkish government to accept and admit
that they committed the first genocide of
the century.
I
do not have any hate; on the contrary, if
the Turks admit to the genocide, Armenia
and Turkey could have a very good business
relationship.
What
amazes me is the amount of evidence we have,
and yet the Turks still deny the fact that
the Armenian genocide took place. Let us
look at the facts and judge with cool heads
so that we can find the truth and "give
peace a chance".
